The Current of Awareness: The Numinous Thread that Unites All
I’ve thought a lot about how many of us—quietly, inwardly, yet undeniably—resonate with the same current. It’s as if a shaft of knowing pierces down through the heart center, reaching into the deepest parts of our spirit, anchoring something ancient and purposeful. We may not always speak it out loud, but we feel it: the pull to bring presence, to let the stillness we hold become a counterpoint to the chaos unfolding around us.
There are enlightened beings—more than we realize—who live in quiet solitude, far from the spotlight. They don’t seek recognition, but their presence is as powerful as any public voice. They are the stabilizers, the holders of the inner flame. And in their way, they are just as essential as those who are called to speak, to act, and to inspire on the outer stage.
Some of us are here not to lead from the front, but to uphold the sacred architecture from within—to hold up the pillars so the charismatic, the visible, can move freely in their purpose. It takes all of us. And we know that the unfolding of spirit doesn’t always happen within the frame of our lifetime. But that doesn’t diminish the role we play. If anything, it affirms it.
We are part of the force that sets the stage. That whispers behind the noise. That plants seeds for the next rhythm of awakening.
So I ask, from the personal yet collective place we share:
Can you feel it too?
This inner movement, this quiet fire?
This call—not to escape the world, but to be fully present within it, holding love like a tuning fork in the center of the storm?
If so, then we are already joined.
Not by ideology or belief—but by frequency.
By the shared knowing that something deeper is unfolding,
and we are here, now, for a reason.
The Current of the Real
As I reflect on the inner current that many of us feel stirring within, I am reminded of the words of Franklin Merrell-Wolff in Pathways Through to Space. He describes a force that rises within when the veil of ego thins, a force that is not merely an emotional shift, but a profound movement of Consciousness itself—a spontaneous ignition of the soul aligning with a greater purpose. This “Current of the Real,” as he calls it, is not something we summon; it arises on its own, when the time is right, and when we are ready to receive it.
Wolff speaks of this Current as something that is felt as a kind of inner electricity, a force that sometimes pulses through the body. It is not intellectual or conceptual, but a direct knowing—a certainty that arises not from thought, but from a deeper, transpersonal realm of awareness. The Current is both subtle and transformative, as it shifts the direction of one’s life from personal seeking to a deeper service—a transmission of the Real to others.
The Current and the Heart Center
When I think of the feeling of unconditional love that emanates from the heart center, I see it as closely related to this Current. In my own experience, this love is not sentimental, nor is it reactive. It is impersonal, all-encompassing, and it feels as though it is flowing through me, not from me. It’s a radiant presence, powerful yet gentle, expansive yet contained. This is how the Current manifests through the heart—a Bhakti form of devotion and love that is not limited to the personal heart, but flows from the infinite.
In many traditions, the heart is seen as the gateway to the Soul, and it is through this portal that the Current moves, bringing with it a profound sense of alignment with a greater order. As Wolff describes it, this awakening is a call to service—a reminder that our lives are no longer solely our own but are part of a larger, unfolding divine purpose.
Living in the World Today
As we consider our role in the world today, it is important to recognize that the world we live in—this chaotic, turbulent, and often distressing world—is not a barrier to spiritual awakening, but a crucible in which the soul is forged. In times like these, where the noise of the world can feel overwhelming, we may be called to stand as pillars of stillness—those who can remain rooted in Presence amidst the storm.
I sense, as many of us do, that we are witnessing the breakdown of old structures—political, social, and cultural—that no longer serve the emerging consciousness. These breakdowns may feel painful, frustrating, and at times hopeless. But I have come to believe, as I am sure many of you have, that this chaos is not an accident. It is the process by which the ignorance and falsehoods that have long shaped our world are being burned away, making way for something more authentic, more aligned with truth.
Consciousness, in its infinite wisdom, seems to be using this time of upheaval to create a pressure, a compression, that will eventually give way to a new way of being—one that reflects the deeper dimensions of reality, the “Real” that Wolff speaks of. The intensity of the moment, the intensity of the chaos, is not a sign of failure—it is a sign of purification, of the old illusions being shaken apart so that the new can emerge.
The Role of the Lucid Soul
In these times, many of us feel called not to protest, not to add more noise to the chaos, but to hold the frequency of peace, love, and clarity in the midst of it all. As Wolff’s description of the Current suggests, our role may not always be as outwardly visible as others—those called to speak, to act, to lead in visible ways. But we are just as essential. We are the ones who hold the space, who anchor the energy, who are not afraid to witness the chaos without being consumed by it.
There are many of us who quietly contribute to the world’s awakening, not through loud protests or public demonstrations, but through our stillness, through our ability to stay centered, to love without condition, and to radiate that love out into the world. This is the work of the Lucid Soul—the soul that is awake to its true nature and is able to project that awareness into the field, affecting those around it, even without saying a word.
As Wolff suggests, the path of awakening is not always about external action, but about aligning with the greater flow of reality. It is about stepping into the Current of the Real and allowing it to move us in ways that transcend personal desire and ego. In doing so, we set the stage for the next phase of the collective evolution—one that is not driven by conflict or division, but by a deeper, more profound understanding of our shared nature.
Summation: There is a moment in every soul’s journey when the world’s noise grows deafening—not just through conflict or chaos, but through the sheer weight of collective forgetfulness. Many today are feeling that moment. What’s happening around us may look like collapse, but at a deeper level, it is the contraction before a great spiritual expansion. It’s not the end of something—it’s the labor of something greater being born.
Those who have begun to awaken are not called to escape the madness or even to confront it head-on in the traditional sense. We are being asked to become centers of coherence—to remain still, aware, and deeply present in the midst of the noise. Not passive, but inwardly active. Not disengaged, but radiantly involved from the inside out.
This work may not look dramatic from the outside. It might take place on a living room sofa, in a quiet moment of breath, or in a refusal to let the world’s fear enter your own field. But that inner stance is powerful. It’s spiritual technology. It anchors stability into the collective energy field and helps create space for others to remember who they are.
There is a rising fire in many—a fire not of anger or protest, but of truth. A soul-fire that refuses to be dimmed by ignorance or hate, yet does not seek to dominate or destroy. This fire purifies. It refines. It clears the way.
As we move through this time, we must understand: the worsening of conditions is not a sign that we are lost—it is a sign that something false is being exhausted. Consciousness, in its infinite intelligence, often allows the darkness to reveal itself fully before it dissipates. In this way, the caustic energy of the moment is not against us—it is the very pressure that will birth a new awareness.
And so, whether you are long on the path or just beginning to question what’s real, know this: the most radical action you can take right now is to remember who you are. From that remembrance, project peace. Stand in truth. And live as a transmitter of clarity in a time of confusion.
This moment is not about waiting for the world to change. It’s about becoming the frequency that will shape the world to come.
